The association
Softcatalà and the
University of Alicante are offering a
free service for automatic translation from Castillian to Catalan via
the net. The system called interNOSTRUM, developed from a Linux
platform has been designed by the
Department of Languages and Computer
Systems of the University of Alicante commissioned by the Savings Bank
Caja de Ahorros del Mediterraneo (
CAM). It is a system of automatic
translation from Castillian to Catalan with its dialect variations, that
lets the user translate any text up to 2,048 characters.
The present system is still in the experimental stage and will be
updated regularly taking advantage of the flexibility offered by
Internet. The new service can be accessed from the web by Softcatalà
www.softcatala.org/traductor.
Softcatalà, a nonlucrative association that works for the normalization
of the Catalan language for computers relating to Internet, intends to
integrate this new service in the next version of Navegador 6, the
Catalan version of the popular Netscape navigator (Mozilla).
MallorcaWeb has collaborated with Softcatalà since its creation offering
technical support for the free online downloading of all the programmes
that the organisation translates.
