Commemoration of the Catalan conquest of Eivissa and Formentera.
Formentera celebrates around the 5th of August the festivities for Santa Maria, known also as the "Festes de la Terra". This celebration, that commemorates the Catalan conquest of Eivissa and Formentera in 1235, has a particularly popular character, with festive proposals that pay special attention to their own culture and traditions. Music in Catalan, traditional games, poetry and conferences are some of the suggestions.
The programme of the fiestas, organised for 20 years by the Comissiķ de Festes de Santa Maria, can be consulted on the web site of the organisers.
