The fiestas of Santa Maria reach Formentera
15 anniversary of the "Festes de la Terra".
The fiestas for Santa Maria, known also as the "Festes de la Terra", started last weekend in Formentera. This celebration, that commemorates the Catalan conquest of Eivissa and Formentera in 1235, has a particularly popular character, with festive proposals that pay special attention to their own culture and traditions. Music in Catalan, dancing and sandal workshops, traditional games, poetry and conferences are some of the suggestions.
The fiestas, organised for 15 years by the Comissiķ de Festes de Santa Maria, include the "Correllengua" (procession in favour of Catalan), on Thursday, August 5, the day of "Santa Maria", as from 6 p.m.
