Roman Castellum on Formentera restored

Roman Castellum on Formentera restored
The Roman Castellum in Can Pins, situated at kilometre 10 of the road from La Savina to the Pilar, near Es Caló area, has been recently restored. This cost 29.460,66 euros, and has been financed by the Balearic Government together with the Eivissa and Formentera Council.

The remains, that is also known as the Castellum de Can Blai, is the most important testimony of the pass by the Romans through Formentera, in the III century AD.

The area is square shaped, with five towers, one on each corner, in points of the compass, and another that protects the entrance gate. The construction was not finished and it is not clear if it was a defence fort or if it was to limit the area.
