The
GOB has
presented this morning a press conference held in the press agency of the
German Government in Berlin the environment situation in the Balearics
and Pitiüses, and the need to destine a great part of the funds that
will be collected via the ecotax for their protection.
The speaker for the GOB, Miquel Àngel March, accompanied by Gerald
Hau of
Euronatur, the collaborating
entity in the organisation of the event, has stated to some 20 members
of the German media, the present environmental situation of the Balearics
and Pitiüses, the effects that tourism has had on the environment,
and the need to destine the funds from the ecotax to the protection and
regeneration of the environment to guarantee the future of the islands
and tourism.
During the press conference, a dossier with the principal tourist and
environment data of the islands was distributed, which has also been sent
to the German Government, so that the public opinion and the Government
"may have another point of view on the ecotax, and not only the catastrophic
posture transmitted by the hoteliers and tour operators". The German media
have asked numerous questions that stated their concern that the funds
could be used for non-environmental ends.
Meanwhile, yesterday the GOB denounced in a
communicate
to the European Commission the artificial regeneration of beaches that
the Spanish Ministry of Environment plans for the Balearics.
