From February 21 to 23, the Parque Tecnológico de Miñano
in Vitoria (Spain) will hold the Informal Meeting of the Ministers
for Telecommunication and Information Society of the European Union.
The conference will also have the participation of a group of leading
experts in the Information Technologies sector and the knowledge-based
economy, including, Cesar Alierta, executive president of Telefónica
de España, and Manuel Castells, professor at the University of California,
Berkeley.
The aim of the informal meeting of Ministers for Telecommunications
and the Information Society is to give impetus to the Information Society
in Europe. To this end it will examine the future of the e-Europe initiative
beyond the year 2002 and will take stock of achievements to date and consider
what measures need to be taken in the future.
