A resolution in support of WTO's Global Code of Ethics for Tourism was
presented to the United Nations on November 19 and approval is expected
by December 10.
WTO's Global Code of Ethics spells out, in a balanced way, the respective
rights and obligations of all those who are stakeholders in the tourism
industry. It aims to minimize the negative impact of tourism on the environment,
on host communities and on cultural heritage. At the same time, it sets
out to maximize the potential benefits for residents of the areas visited
as well as for the private sector of both tourist-receiving and generating
countries.
