December 3 is the saints day for Sant Francesc Xavier, patron of the
parish of Sant Francesc de Formentera, the most populated urban village
on the Island. To celebrate this date, Sa Raval des Pa i Oli - Fiesta
Committee, together with numerous collaborating local firms and institutions,
have prepared a varied programme of events that will last until Sunday,
December 9.
A great part of the festivities, such as the concerts and the dances,
will be concentrated in Sa Plaça, the centre of the town, with the
Church and Town Hall as the background.
On Saturday 1, there will be sports activities all day, in the evening
a play by the IES Marc Ferrer school, and to end, rock with the groups
Van de kul and Wiskin's. On Sunday 2, the tourneys and sports demonstrations
will continue and in the evening there will be a dance with the Bailem
orchestra.
On Monday 3, the Patron Saint's day, the events will start in the morning
with a "bunyols" contest, followed by the mass, the procession and invitation
to "orelletes i vi pagès", with traditional dancing. After lunch,
children's games, "tirada de galls" and at 8 p.m. a grand barbecue and
prize giving. The festivity of Sant Francesc will end with the performance
by Agustín el Casta, with music by the Bailem orchestra and the
reading of the proclamation.
The events of the programme will continue on Thursday, December 6, with
the popular Minimarathon, and once again on Sunday 9, with the Ping-Pong
contest.
