Ben Amics, the Balearic Gay and Lesbian Group, has called the sixth
edition of the Premios "Siurell" and "Dimoni Rosa". The "Siurell" is awarded
to those people, entities or institutions who have excelled in their struggle
for the freedom of people and for equality for homosexuals. In contrast,
the "Pink Devil" is given to those people, entities or institutions who
have stood out for favouring homophobic behaviours and being against freedom
of the people.
Those nominated for the Premis "Siurell" y "Dimoni" Rosa 2001 are:
For the "Siurell Rosa", el Teniente Coronel Sanchez Silva, for his act
of visibility, as a high ranking member in the army; the Federació
d'Associacions de Pares i Mares d'Alumnes de les Illes Balears, for their
acceptance of the campaign for the normalisation of homosexuality in schools;
and the Spanish Senate, for having approved the draft law for the rights
of sexual identity.
For the "Dimoni Rosa", Unió Mallorquina, for their posture towards
the adoption by homosexual couples; Acción Familiar, for not
accepting homosexual couples as a family; and cardinal Joseph Ratzinger,
president of the Congregación de la Doctrina de la Fe, for his continual
attacks on the dignity of homosexuals.
