The server of the Mallorcan Council suffered
recently
an attack by a hacker. Everything seems to indicate that the intruder used
the Linux virus li0n, known also as the "Lion". It is a worm similar
to "Ramen" that takes advantage of the vulnerability of some of the oldest
versions of BIND, programme that is used by many servers on Internet to
administer DNS (Domain Name Service).
The worm does not have a great expansion capacity but it does have serious
consequences for the servers it penetrates. According to some experts
consulted, until now the only servers who have been affected by the virus
are those who have not updated their BIND programme.
The virus li0n exploits vulnerabilities of the versions of BIND previous
to the 8.2.3, that
were
announced in January.
