The Consejo Escolar de las Illes Balears was officially formed in a
ceremony in the Chapel at the Consolat de la Mar, with the presence of
the president of the
Govern de les Illes
Balears, Francesc Antich, and the Councillor for Education and Culture,
Damià Pons.
The Consejo Escolar de les Illes Balears is comprised of representatives
of teachers, parents, pupils, businesses, unions, administration and the
university, with a possible total of 51 members.
Although there is a law for School Committees, from 1998 promoted by
the previous executive, this new organisation had not been constituted.
The present Balearic Government modified the previous legislation by the
new Law for School Committees on December 13, 2000 in which the obligation
to constitute a School Committee of the Balearics was decided to take place
within three months as from the validity of the law, and six months to
constitute the insular school committees and municipal school committees.
