The president of the
Govern
de les Illes Balears, Francesc Antich, demanded on Thursday at a press
conference that the
Govern Central
should apply the Special Regime to the Balearics, the law passed in 1998
to compensate the negative effects generated by the insularity.
According to Antich, the degree of fulfilment of the law has been zero
and its application is fundamental to compensate the historic deficit that
the Balearics suffer due to their insularity. The president stressed
that the Balearic Government has projects to the value of 200.000 million
pesetas that are pending the development of the Special Regime for the
Balearics and the money to be supplied by the Madrid cabinet.
