The councillor for Tourism, Celestí Alomar, presented on Wednesday,
the tourism statistics for 2000 at the International Tourism Fair (
FITUR),
that is being held in Madrid.
According to the Councillor, the year 2000 has been a record year for
turnover, in visitors and in work force. The economic volume of the
tourist sector surpassed for the first time a billion pesetas, with a growth
of 5.1% over 1999. The number of visitors has reached 11.2
million, 0.2% more than the previous year, and the average money spent
per day per tourist has increased by 425 ptas.
