Gold Medals 2001 for the Autonomous Community

Gold Medals 2001 for the Autonomous Community
The Balearic Government Cabinet has approved to give the "Medalla d'Or de la Comunitat" to the Societat Arqueològica Lul·liana, to the Ateneu Científic, Literari i Artístic in Maó and to the Institut d'Estudis Eivissencs.

The Societat Arqueològica Lul·liana is a cultural entity created in Palma in December 1880 by Bartomeu Ferrà Perelló.  Its objective was to honour the memory of Ramon Llull and to collect works of art, particularly religious ones, to avoid their destruction and exit from Mallorca, and also to promote and protect the island monumental heritage.

The Ateneu Científic, Literari i Artístic de Maó is an association that was officially constituted in Maó in 1905 as an expression of the ideals that surged within Menorcan intellectual circles of the era, including the so called Extensió Universitària, that was promoted by doctor Alabern, one of the greatest promoters and collaborators.

The Institut d'Estudis Eivissencs is the cultural civic entity that has contributed most to maintaining the identity of Ibiza and Formentera.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet also approved the Ramon Llull 2001 prizes, namely:
For Art: Rafel Tur Costa and Maruja Alfaro.
For Economic Initiative: Fundació Deixalles.
For Science: Andreu Ripoll.
For Written Arts:  Jocelyn Nigel Hillgarth and Andreu Murillo Tudurí.
For Civic Activity: Llorenç Tous Massanet.
For Sport: Margalida Fullana, Joan Llaneras and Xavi Torres.
