UNICEF in the Balearics informs that the
Spanish Committee of UNICEF has set up an emergency campaign to help El
Salvador. The organisation has already sent ten million pesetas to attend to the most immediate needs of the children affected by

Meanwhile, the Balearic Department for Welfare has announced that it will supply 15 million pesetas for humanitarian aid for El
Salvador. The "Projecte d'ajuda humanitària d'emergència a El Salvador" will be administered by the NGO Metges del Món-Illes
Balears and will have a total budget of 20 million pesetas. The
Balearic Government will also subsidise part of the project by
Apotecaris Solidaris "Pla d'Emergència", also aimed at this central American country.
In El Salvador rescue work and evacuation continue, which are hindered by the quakes that are still occurring in the area.
According to the
Red Cross, over 600 bodies have been found and there are still at least 1,000 people missing.
