Sydney Opera House Wins Cybersquatting Case

Sydney Opera House Wins Cybersquatting Case
The Arbitration and Mediation Center of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has decided that the disputed domain name sydneyoperahouse.net should be transferred from Trilynx Pty. Limited to Sydney Opera House Trust.

The arbitrator panel found that Sydney-based Trilynx has no rights or legitimate interests in the disputed domain name, which was registered on May 6, 1999.

The building known as the Sydney Opera House has been world famous since its official opening in 1973 by Queen Elizabeth II. It is one of the busiest performing arts centers in the world and is often used as a symbol of Sydney in advertising and promotion.

WIPO's arbitration system for Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy entered into effect on December 1, 1999.

Case Results until end of October 2000:
- 1491 cases filed
- 737 decisions rendered, of which 140 were complaints denied, 6 were cancelled and 591 were transfers.
