To commemorate a century of tourism in the Balearics and to promote a
social debate on the repercussions of the tourist phenomenon on our
surroundings, the
Department for Tourism of the Balearic Government via
the Instituto Balear del Turismo (IBATUR), has initiated the project:
"Futurisme: Imatge i realitat del turisme a les Illes Balears".
Futurisme will gather together over three years different cycles of
conferences, debates, exhibitions and other cultural activities. The
project started last Wednesday, September 20, with the ceremony of the
public recognition of the Danish architect, Jørn Utzon, the author of
the Sydney Opera House and resident in Mallorca for many years. The
ceremony was part of the International Cycle of Conferences that will
continue until November 15 at the
Caixa Foundation in Palma.
