World Conservation Congress

World Conservation Congress
The second World Conservation Congress, organised by the World Conservation Union (IUCN) will be held between October 4 and 11, 2000 in Amman, Jordan. The central topic for the congress is the "ecospace", a term that expresses the idea that environmental protection, on different geographic scales, comprises an essential requisite for the social, economical and political safety of mankind.

The IUCN was founded in 1948. It is the world's largest conservation-related organisation, bringing together 76 states, 111 government agencies, 732 NGOs, 36 affiliates, and some 10,000 scientists and experts from 181 countries in a unique worldwide partnership.

The Balearic Ornithological Group and Defence of Nature (GOB) is a member of the IUCN, together with 16 other Spanish ONGs. The GOB is also a member of the Iberian Committee for the Defence of Nature.
