On Monday, June 19, the selection exams for the Balearic University
started. Over 2,700 students attended the classroom that were prepared
in the University Campus and in centres in Inca, Manacor, Menorca, Ibisa
and Formentera, as well as the Art School in Palma, on the third day of
the exams to take the Art exams.
The trials for access to the University this year have introduced some
changes, some of which have not been well received in the educational
community. One of the novelties that has caused most protests is that
the final qualification for access to university studies will be
calculated with 40% based on the selection exam and 60% on the average
of the student's academic file for the course, when previously it was
based on the mathematical average between the exam and academic file.
Therefore the school average will be more important than the exam and
the controversy comes because of the suspicion that some private schools
may favour illegally their pupils increasing their average marks.
