The Balearic Government rejects the decision to free to Pinochet

The Balearic Government, in the cabinet meeting held on Friday, has expressed is rejection against the decision to free Pinochet. In a press statement the Govern states its solidarity with the people of Chile and expresses its wish that Pinochet will be judged in his own country by a free and impartial court.

In relation to the matters dealt with by the Cabinet, worth mentioning are:

- The approval of the modification decree (126/97) of the Consortium for the Promotion of the Use of the Catalan Language (COFUC). The objective of this modification is to adapt the COFUC to the new needs and the new policy relating to culture, linguistic policy and foreign projection of the Balearic Government.
- Approval of the rules for Colleges of Professionals of the Balearic Islands. The text regulates the creation of these entities, their relationship with the public Administration and the organisation and administration of a registry in itself, amongst other aspects.
- Approval of the creation of the Registry of Academic and Professional Qualifications of the Balearics, which will be adjunct to the Council of Education and Culture, will be public and which will include all the qualifications corresponding to the pupils who have finished their secondary and higher education, auxiliary intermediary and superior training cycles and official language school.
- Denouncement of the urban Agreement "Es Carnatge II" (4/1/1993) subscribed between the Palma Council and the Autonomous Community, because there is no intention of carrying out the steps foreseen.
- The creation of the Interdepartmental Committee for Exterior Action, entity that will carry out the political and technical coordination of the relevant international events that the different departments of the Balearic Government develop.
