The
GOB stated, in a press communiqué, their worry about the paralisation of the legislative reforms, announced by the Balearic
Government, in matters of territorial and urban planning.
According to the ecological association, the figures that these days are being announced referring to last year, relating to the
consumption of water or power, waste production, number of tourists, residential accommodation, etc. demonstrate the need to
adopt urgent measures to put a stop to galloping tourist, urban and residential growth. The water crisis in the past few days is a
consequence of this growth.
The communiqué from the GOB points out that the
Pacte de Progrés had set determined priorities, amongst those being the
"redesign of a territorial and urban policy" and they proposed the revision of basic legal texts for the territorial planning, such as the
Territorial Planning Directives, a Law of Land adequate for the islands or to review the Law of Rustic Land.
Eight months have gone by since the new Government had taken over, and, according to the GOB, the situation as far as new
legislative norms is almost the same as in the beginning. Therefore, the ecological organisation requests the Government to attack
with greatest urgency and courage the elaboration or reformation of a group of urban and territorial laws with a view to setting the
legal basis for a new territorial model.
