From January 26 to 30 in the Madrid Fairs Park Juan Carlos I, the
Feria Internacional de Turismo (FITUR) will take place, one of the
most important tourist fairs in the world. The Balearics will be represented by a stand of 450 m2 distributed in two floors, doubling
the 1999 capacity. The stand (Pavilion 3B/ Stand 202) will have the presence of the tourist offers and autochthonic products of the
Balearics.
FITUR 2000 will occupy for the first time the eight pavilions of the Juan Carlos I Fair Park and will have the presence of 7,933 firms
from 170 countries, that will exhibit their products and tourist services. The main novelty of this edition is the celebration of FITUR
CONGRESSES on January 24 and 25. This is a professional congress aimed at attending the emerging tourist business market,
that will be attended by the general director for Tourist Coordination of the Balearic Government, Josep Antoni Peréz de Mendiola
and the director of Ibatur, Ina Martínez.
The opening of FITUR 2000, on the 26th at 12 h, will be attended by the Balearic Councillor for Tourism, Celestí Alomar, and on 27th,
coinciding with the Balearic Day in the fair, president Francesc Antich will go to Madrid to make contacts with the tourist sector of
the island present in the fair and to meet up with the Cuban Minister of Tourism, on the Balearic stand.
Meanwhile, today Monday, will see the start of the official visit to Mallorca by the Mexican Secretary for Tourism,
Oscar Espinosa Villarreal, who will hold several meetings with tourist businessmen and have a working meeting with the president of the Govern,
Francesc Antich, the Councillor for Tourism, Celestí Alomar and the Councillor for Economy, Joan Mesquida. He will also visit
Calvia to get to know this tourist area and will attend a dinner with the councillor for Tourism, and important tourist businessmen who
have investments in Mexico. On 25th, the Mexican minister and his team will journey to Madrid to attend FITUR.
