Campaign of massive identification of dogs via an electronic system of microchip

The campaign has the main objective of uniting identification criteria for dogs on the islands via the use of a uniform method that consists basically in implanting a subcutaneous microchip on the left of the animal's neck, with an alphanumeric code corresponding to the code that figures on the dog's identification document. The Conselleria d'Agricultura already has everything prepared to that authorised vets can start the campaign this November. The identification is compulsory for dogs and voluntary for other species, and costs 3,750 pesetas. This new system will permit a rapid localisation of the owners who have lost or abandoned their dog, and the possibility of identifying the animals and their owners in the event that the animal generates a civil or penal.
