Yesterday, the IX Regional Congress of the Popular (Conservative) Party, elected Jaume Matas, the ex president of the Balearic Government, as the new president of PP in the Balearics. Matas was elected with 80% of the votes while the other candidate, Joan Forcades only obtained 13% of the votes. Matas's victory is significant as he obtains the support of the party after the electoral beating suffered in the elections in June. What is more, the utter failure of Forcades demonstrates the scarce influence on the party by the groups closest to Gabriel Caņellas.
