Matas and 12 local ministers form the new Balearic Government
After taking official possession of his post last Friday, the president of the Govern de les Illes Balears, Jaume Matas, presented on Monday in a press conference the composition of the new cabinet.  The main novelty in the structure of the Govern is the removal of two local ministries, that of Welfare and  Innovation and Energy.  These two areas of government will be taken on in the case of Welfare by the New Conselleria of the Presidency and Sport, that will transfer as from January 1, 2004 the responsibilities that administer Welfare to the Insular councils, and in the case of Innovation and Energy by the new Conselleria of Economy, the Exchequer and Innovation, and by thye new Conselleria of Commerce, Industry and Engery.

According to Jaume Matas, the new local ministers will take official possession of the posts on Tuesday, the day that their nomination will be published in the BOIB, and the following Wednesday the first Cabinet will meet, formed by the President and twelve new local ministers or consellers. Jaume Matas has stressed the presence in the new cabinet of the Menorcan, Guillermo de Olives, and the Ibizan, Josep Juan Cardona, and, answering a question, has announced that the new consellers that are also MPs of the Parlament de les Illes Balears will resign from this possition to dedicate their time exclusively to the task of government, except in the case of Rosa Estarás, Joan Flaquer, Josep Juan Cardona and Jaume Font. The later will remain as an MP but will resign as Mayor of Sa Pobla.

The composition of the new Govern announced by Jaume Matas is as follows:

- Rosa Estaràs, Vicepresident and Consellera  for Institutional Relations.

- Joan Flaquer, Conseller for Tourism and spokesman of the Govern.

- Maria Rosa Puig, Consellera of the Presidency and Sport.

- Josep Juan Cardona, Conseller for Commerce, Industry and Engery.

- Lluís Ramis de Ayreflor, Conseller for Economy, the Exchequer and Innovation.

- Mabel Cabrer, Consellera for Public Works, Housing and Transport.

- Guillermo de Olives, Conseller for Labour and Training.

- Aina Castillo, Consellera for Health and Consume.

- Tomás de Villanueva Cortés, Conseller for Agriculture and Fisheries.

- Francesc Fiol, Conseller for Education and Culture.

- Jaume Font, Conseller for Environment.

- José María Rodríguez, Conseller for the Home Office.
