In spite of being the most voted candidature, the Coalició d'Organitzacions
Progressistes (COP) has lost the absolute majority on the Formentera Town
Council. The candidature of the COP, led by the present mayor, Isidor
Torres, obtained 6 councillors, losing 2 with respect to the elections
in 1999. The Partido Popular, led by Juan Manuel Costa, has become the second municipal force
with 3 councillors, 2 more than the previous elections, and the Grupo Independientes
Formentera (GUIF) led by Antonio Campillo also obtained 3 councillors,
losing 1 with respect to the previous elections. The electoral novelty
is the entrance onto the council by the Partido Renovador de Eivissa y
Formentera (PREF) that has obtained 1 councillor, Cándido Valladolid,
and possibly the key to the government of the Council.
