On Saturday, March 1, the "Dia de les Illes Balears" will be celebrated
on Mallorca, Menorca, Eivissa and Formentera. On Mallorca, the programmed
events will begin on February 28, at 7 p.m., in Sa Llonja in Palma, with
the ceremony to give the Gold Medals of the Balearics and the Ramon Llull
Prizes. The day after, Saturday, amongst other activities there will be
a Day of open doors at the Consolat de Mar, centre of the Balearic Govern,
and at half past twelve the ceremony to commemorate the 20th anniversary
of the Statutes of the Autonomous Community of the Balearics will take
place. The day will end with a concert in the Plaça d'Espanya, by
Cap-pela, Antònia Font, Sexy Sadie and Dawholeenchilada. On Mallorca,
the programme will continue until March 3, with several cultural and sports
activities.
As for Menorca, the events will begin on Friday, February 28, at 9 p.m.
with a lyric concert at the Teatre Principal de Maó and on Saturday,
March 1, there will be a popular day dedicated to Pétanque in Es
Castell and a cultural gymkhana for youngsters from 14 to 17 at the Esplanada
de Maó.
In the port of Eivissa, on Saturday, March 1, there will also be a popular
day dedicated to Pétanque, a cultural gymkhana for youngsters
from 14 to 17 and a concert by the Orfeó Mayurqa at the Auditori
de Cas Serres. The events will end the day after, with a tournament of
Sling Shooting in Santa Eulària des Riu.
Finally, in Formentera, the "Dia de les Illes Balears" will be celebrated
with a cultural gymkhana for youngsters from 14 to 17.
