The president of the Balearics, Francesc Antich, and the Councillor for Inland Revenue and Taxes, Joan Mesquida, have
presented the results of the first study that the Govern has carried out on the degree of socio-economic welfare in the Balearics.
The study, called "
L'índex de Desenvolupament Humà a les Balears" has been carried out applying the method of calculation of
the
index of human development created by the United Nations in the Spanish autonomous communities.
According to the report, although the Balearics has the highest income per capita of all the Spanish autonomous regions, when
the transfer of this economical potential to the welfare of the public is analysed, the islands lose five places in the ranking and
move down to sixth autonomous community in the degree of human development.
Manuel Serrano López and Bartomeu Alcover Bisbal are the authors of the study, that has been coordinated by Tomàs
Méndez Reyes, general director of P
rogramming and Economic Order of the Balearic Government.
