RIU
Hotels will open next March 1 the Hotel Riu Tropical
Bay, the first establishment of the hotel chain on the island of Jamaica.
Set on the first line on the coast of Bloody Bay, near Negril (West of
Jamaica) it is a 5 star all inclusive hotel. It is aimed principally
at visitors from USA and Canada, where the brand RIU is winning fame and
prestige.
Meanwhile, RIU Hotels will open in July this year their first establishment
on the island of Madeira, 4 star plus palace category , set on the coast
next to a fishing village called Caniça de Baixo. With this
hotel, the hotel chain hopes to attract, as well as Spanish and centre
European visitors, an important number of British visitors who are prone
to travelling to Madeira, the so called "island of flowers".
RIU adds these two new hotels, both owned and built by the firm, to
the long list of destinations in the world with beautiful beaches where
the hotel chain is present: Mallorca, Formentera, Málaga, Huelva,
Girona, The Algarve, Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote,
Dominican Republic, Florida, Cuba, Mexico, Jamaica, Tunis, Bulgaria, Cyprus
and Madeira.
At present the chain is also building its eighth establishment in the
Dominican Republic, the Club-Hotel Riu Bachata in Puerto Plata, and in
2002 will open its first hotel in the African archipelago Cabo Verde.
The RIU chain has at present 11,000 employees, is present in 10 countries,
has 89 hotels and in the last financial year had a gross turnover of 105,000
million pesetas.
