From November 13 to 16 the "
World Travel Market 2000" is being held in
London, one of the most important tourist fairs in the world.
According to the
Councillor for Tourism of the Govern, the British
market is the second in importance for the Balearics, with 3,407,775
tourists this year, from January to October to the Islands, with an
increase of 3% in respect to the same period in 1999.
The Councillor for Tourism, Celestí Alomar, and the director for Ibatur,
Tiffany Blackman, went to the fair to make contacts with the press and
those responsible for the main British tour operators. On Tuesday 14th,
the president of the Govern, Francesc Antich, also travelled to London
to visit the Balearic stand and the stands of the Balearic firms
represented at the Fair.
Meanwhile, the
Riu Hotel chain will receive on Wednesday 15, the prize
"Environmental Company Award". With this prize the organisers of the
World Trade Market distinguish every year the firm of each European
country that has carried out the best environment policy.
