The
RIU Hotel chain, the second
largest in Spain by billing, concludes this year with 11,000 employees,
a thousand more than in 1999, which represents a growth of 10% in personnel,
who are distributed around 89 hotels in 10 countries. The growth of RIU's
personnel is due to the opening in 2000 of the new hotels in Málaga,
Huelva, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Mexico.
At this time, RIU, which is already in the 34th position in world ranking
of rooms, has establishments in Spain, Portugal, Dominican Republic, U.S.A.,
Cuba, Mexico, Tunisia, Morocco, Bulgaria and Cyprus. As from 2001 the chain
will incorporate a new country, the island of Jamaica, as a new destination
and, within two years, the African archipelago, Cabo Verde.
For 2001, the chain foresees a sustained growth in employees of approximately
10%, similar to this last year.
