La Societat d'Història Natural de les Balears, a non lucrative cultural
entity that was founded in Palma in 1954, now has over 300 members in
the Balearics, mainland Spain and abroad. The organisation is dedicated
mainly to promoting knowledge on nature from different perspectives and
to preserve the natural cultural heritage, and has is main priority to
promote the creation of the Natural Museum of the Balearics with
different branches, one in Mallorca, another in Menorca and a third in
Ibiza.
The Society offers advice to its members with different means,
publications, library, data base, and organises periodically scientific
conferences. It also organises, sporadically, nature exhibitions, both
collections (geology maps, photographs, etc.) and topics such as the
exhibition "The Balearics before man".
