On September 23 and 24 there will be the first professional days for the
Theatre of the Balearics at Can Tąpera (Sant Agustķ) to debate the state
of Dramatic Art in our community. The incipient theatrical industry
that has occured in the past few years, the increase in the professional
companies and stages, and also the structuring of the sector, are some
of the precedents that have motivated these first days to debate the
problems of Professional Theatre.
The days are organised by the General Direction of Culture of the
Balearic Government, Social Welfare Services of the Sa Nostra savings
bank, the Balearic Association for Theatrical Production Firms (ABET),
and the Association of Professional Actors and Actresses of the
Balearics (AAPIB).
The days are orientated especially towards the whole professional
theatre sector, but are also open to anyone interested in the subjects
to be analysed:
- Cultural politics. Social projection of the theatre. Communication
media. Public.
- Professional production. Amateur-Professional. Economics and
legislation.
- Exhibition. Stage areas. Circuits. Festivals, Fairs, Exhibitions.
- Profesionals: Actors, Directors, Authors, Technicians, stage
producers, lighting, producers, etc.
In the month of July in Mallorca work groups were organised with
representatives of the sector, to make an X-ray of the professional
theatrical situation in the islands and to extract a list of proposals
that will serve as a basis for debate. Groups in Ibiza and Menorca have
also been organised to create a document with the specific problems of
each island.
