Someone once said that an island was a portion of land surrounded by
water on all sides except the one called... sky. If our habitat is
the conjunction of land, air and water and this latter occupies the
greater extension of the territory, it is easy to understand the
incidence that the "health" of the sea acquires on the human health.
Salut i Força publishes this month a study on the environmental quality
of the Mediterranean sea, from the regeneration of the beaches and the
control of the spillage, up to the situation of the fishing and "blue
flags".
Other important topics dealt with in the latest edition of the Balearic
health magazine are the Programme for early detection of breast cancer
in Mallorca, started in December 1998; the sexual relations as an
omnipresent phenomena in the life of every person and new techniques
for cardiac surgery developed by the
Cardiac Surgery Service of the
Balearics.
