The XXXII edition of the
Universitat Catalana d'Estiu (UCE) will be held
between August 15 and 25 in
Prada de Conflent.
The first edition of the UCE took place in 1969 and has become the
meeting point for Catalan democratic forces. Once the present democracy
was instigated, its task was reconsidered and under the guidance of the
Institut d'Estudis Catalans it linked formally with the Catalan
universities grouped round the
Institut Joan Lluis Vives.
The presence of the Balearics in the UCE this year is important. The
closure will be presided by the President of the Balearic Government,
Frances Antich. Others who will participate in different events are:
Maria Antònia Munar, Pere Sampol, Damià Pons and Miquel Capellà. Joan
Alegret, Bernat Joan, Josep Massot, Bartomeu Mestre, Llorenç Valverde
and Gabriel Bibiloni will also participate in the courses. At the same
time,
Biel Majoral and
Fora des Sembrat will perform; and a tribute to
Guillem d'Efak will be held.
The professor of the UIB, Joan Mir, member of the rector committee of
the UCE, is the person in charge of organising and facilitating the
present of the Islands in Prada de Conflent. The attendance by the
public of the Islands is subsidised in part thanks to contributions by
the UIB, Sa Nostra, the Balearic Government and the Mallorcan Council.
