The
EUROPARC Federation – Europe's umbrella organisation of protected areas, with members in 34 European countries - has
declared 24th May as the
European Day of Parks.
The first European Day of Parks was held on 24th May 1999, and met with an enthusiastic response across Europe. All countries in
Europe, EUROPARC member organisations, protected area administrations, government authorities responsible for parks, and
non-governmental conservation organisations are now called upon to celebrate this occasion again on 24th May 2000. The theme for
this year's Day of Parks is Transcending Borders - Parks for Europe.
