The president of the Balearic Government, Frances Antich, travelled on Monday to Agaccio (Corsica) to attend the annual meeting of
the
IMEDOC (Occidental Mediterranean Islands). This is the fourth meeting since May 9, 1995, when the islands of
Corsica,
Sardinia and the
Balearics agreed in Valldemossa to constitute a platform for cooperation. This last year, Balearics has held the
presidency which, after this current meeting, will pass to Corsica.
The Balearics will be represented by the Councillor for Inland Revenue and Budgets, Joan Mesquida, the general director for
European and Mediterranean Relations, Juan Manuel López Nadal, and the technical secretary for Balearics in the IMEDOC,
Cristofol Soler.
The days work started with a private meeting between the president of Corsica, Jean Baggioni, the president of the Autonomous
Region of Sardinia, Mario Floris, the president of the Balearics, Francesc Antich and, as an observer, the president of the
Autonomous Region of
Sicily, Angelo Capodicasa, who will propose the possible definite inclusion of Sicily in the IMEDOC.
There will also be a meeting of the Board of IMEDOC, formed by the three presidents when they will deal with topics of common
interest for the three islands and the start of the working sessions.
The meetings continue until Tuesday with a visit to Campomoro, the natural area included in the project "Fragile insular areas" just
as the Balearics has included the Mondragó Natural Park.
