The possible privatization of the public state firm
AENA, administrator of the airport for the Balearics and the rest of Spain, has
resulted in the majority of business of the islands showing their opposition to the project. Both the
Cámara de Comercio de
Mallorca, Ibiza y Formentera, presided by Miquel Lladó, and the business owners association
CAEB, presided by Josep Oliver, and
other business association, political parties and social organisations such as the
OCB, presided by Antoni Mir, have expressed
their fear that the privatisation of AENA will harm the economic and social interests of the Balearics.
For this reason, the president of the
Govern de les Illes Balears, Francesc Antich, has requested, in a letter send to the acting
president of the
Gobierno central, José Mª Aznar, that the Autonomous Communities participate in the administration of the airports.
