The Spanish hotel company
Sol Meliá and the Brazilian company
Odebrecht have signed a joint-venture agreement to develop hotel
projects in Brazil’s main airports. One of the first of the fruits of this agreement has been the joint-venture’s recent selection by
Infraero, the state-owned company that operates all of the country’s hotels, to build a new hotel in the Rio de Janeiro
International
Airport. The hotel will operate under the “Meliá Confort” hotel brand. According to the Vice Chairman,
Sebastián Escarrer, “this
important agreement with Odebrecht will provide great support to our development plans in Brazil, a country in which we currently
operate 10 hotels and where we have already signed agreements to take over a further 15 properties up to the year 2002”. Sol Meliá
currently operates more than 260 hotels in 27 countries and is the leading hotel company in Latin America and the Caribbean.
